360BCN

by Anne-Marie CORNU

1999 / Mini DV / coul / sil / 8' 00

This film was shot by rotating three cameras attached to a vinyl record. The three cameras record three separate images on three separate axes, each 120° from the next. The film opens with a static shot. Then the record is unblocked. Manipulation of the record and exterior influences acting upon the mechanism cause the cameras to rotate at varying speeds.
The mechanism was first tested in Rotterdam. It was the inspiration for an installation at the Galerie Fotomania in July 1999, during the Latente Bild-Studio Een exhibition.
This work is basically a theory of movement. There are currently three versions of the work (360Rotterdam, 360Barcelona, 360Torino), as well as a series of newer versions shot on digital video. As with the film versions of the 360 project, the digital versions have a pre-determined relationship between their three images.
