BLACK'S BACK

This film consists of a subjective and imaginary vision of figurative combat: an Occidental image system, as embodied by Disney, versus an alternative image system originating in the political movements related to the Black Power movement in the United States. Just as Ravel's Bolero tells the story of a dancer who drags everything away in her wake, Camille Yarbrough's song All Hid establishes the structure of Black's Back. Media imagery mixes with fiction to create a cinematic song devoted to a photogeneity characterised less by skin colour than by the vital energy that it incarnates: explosive, self confident and therefore subversive.
