Light Cone a initié en janvier 2015 un dispositif de résidences d'aide à la post-production vidéo
pour les films qui relèvent du spectre du cinéma expérimental. La résidence
Atelier 105 s'adresse à des projets de courts, moyens et longs-métrages,
en cours de tournage ou déjà tournés. Le
film doit relever du cinéma expérimental mais aucun autre critère (format,
sujet, traitement, durée, origine du cinéaste, etc.) n'est imposé.
L'objectif est d'accueillir entre 10 et 15 projets par an.
L'ÉQUIPEMENT ET L'AIDE TECHNIQUE
Un espace de travail spécifiquement équipé est mis à disposition des artistes
dans les locaux de Light Cone avec une station de montage, des logiciels et une console de
mixage, un moniteur d'étalonnage et des ordinateurs dédiés à l'encodage de
fichiers et à la fabrication de DCP. Cet équipement a été mis en place par
des professionnels dans le but de faire bénéficier les cinéastes des meilleurs
outils possibles. Le résident a également un accès permanent au centre de
documentation de Light Cone et à la salle de projection.
Un technicien – spécialisé dans le montage vidéo, l'étalonnage et l'encodage –
s'occupe de l'accueil des résidents. Les résidents peuvent travailler de
manière autonome ou être accompagnés de leur monteur. En début de session,
si nécessaire, le technicien peut assurer un stage de formation sur
MediaComposer, Final Cut Pro, AfterEffects ou Resolve. Il conseille également
en amont les cinéastes retenus sur les choix des formats adaptés aux
différents logiciels.
L'ACCOMPAGNEMENT ARTISTIQUE
L'un des objectifs de Light Cone est de favoriser le partage des expériences,
de mettre en place un système d'échange, et ainsi de créer un espace de
production fécond pour les cinéastes. Au delà
de l'accompagnement technique, logistique et de l'apport en industrie,
l'équipe de Light Cone (constituée de cinéastes et/ou programmateurs) apporte
une véritable aide artistique à la création expérimentale.
Le cinéaste peut ainsi échanger avec l'équipe pendant la fabrication de son
film (pour toute question technique ou artistique, pour des conseils ou des
informations de tout ordre) et ils peuvent visionner ensemble les différentes
étapes du montage si le cinéaste le désire.
Le comité de sélection des projets, agréé par le conseil d'administration de
Light Cone, a l'expérience et la pratique qui lui donnent la possibilité de
suivre l'évolution des films retenus pendant le temps de la résidence.
Il est composé de quatre membres permanents de Light Cone :
- Gisèle Rapp Meichler, présidente de la structure
- Christophe Bichon, responsable de la collection
- Emmanuel Lefrant, directeur
- Eleni Gioti, coordinatrice de l'Atelier 105
et de deux membres extérieurs (puisés parmi les programmateurs ou cinéastes
travaillant avec la structure) dont les mandats sont renouvelés à chaque commission.
Les membres extérieurs du comité de sélection pour la première session de 2017 sont :

- Mariya Nikiforova, programmatrice indépendante
RENCONTRE AVEC LE PUBLIC
L'Atelier 105 est conçu comme un espace de création alternatif, alliant
création et partage. Une séance Scratch/Atelier 105 aura lieu en février 2017
avec une sélection de films de l'Atelier 105 réalisés en 2016.
MODALITÉS D'INSCRIPTION
Les inscriptions pour la première session 2017
(du 27 février au 7 juillet) sont ouvertes.
La date limite
de dépôt des dossiers est fixée au vendredi 20 janvier
à minuit.
(date indicative car à la réception du 30ème dossier
déposé la session sera close)
Pour soumettre son dossier, le candidat doit adhérer à l'association et ainsi
devenir membre. Frais d'inscription de 30€ incluant l'accès au centre de
documentation pendant un an.
Les sessions sont considérées closes à la réception du 30ème dossier. Une
annonce est postée sur notre site internet dès lors que le quota maximum
a été atteint.

FIRST COMMISSION OF 2017

In January 2015, Light Cone initiated artist residencies dedicated to video-based
post-production of films that fall within the realm of experimental cinema,
with the objective of supporting ten to fifteen projects per year.
The residency is intended to suit the work-flow of experimental filmmakers, and
so eligibility criteria are deliberately kept open. Short-, medium, as well as
feature-length films are welcome, at the shooting or the editing stage of
the project, and with or without the backing of an independent production
company. While the project must fit within the field of experimental cinema,
no other criteria (length, nationality of filmmaker, etc.) will be imposed.
EQUIPMENT AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
Atelier 105 seeks to give filmmakers access to professional post-production facilities
that are often out of their reach. A fully-equipped workspace located in Light Cone's
premises gives artists access to an editing station, sound mixing hardware and software, a
color-correction monitor, as well as dedicated computers for encoding video files and
DCPs. This equipment has been chosen by professionals to allow filmmakers to have
the best possible tools at their disposal. The filmmaker-in-residence also has full
access to Light Cone's documentation center and screening room.
A technician specialized in editing, color-correction, and encoding is on hand to
assist the filmmaker. Filmmakers are free to work alone or accompanied by their
editor. At the beginning of the residency, our technician can offer training in Media
Composer, Final Cut Pro, After Effects or Resolve. The selected filmmakers
are also able to consult with him in advance in order to select the shooting
and editing formats that are most compatible with the available software.
ARTISTIC ACCOMPANIMENT
One of our central concerns is to facilitate exchange, to share experience and to
create a productive working environment for filmmakers. Beyond technical, logistical
and practical assistance, the Light Cone team (made up of filmmakers
and/or programmers) also aims to offer artistic guidance and to put in place a
genuine platform for experimental creation. Filmmakers are free to consult with our
team (concerning technical or artistic issues as well as general advice) and to show
them the different stages of the edit.
The members of the selection committee –under the auspices of Light Cone's
board of directors– will gladly share their professional experience and
knowledge as they follow the progress of each project over the
course of the residency.
The selection committee is composed of 4 permanent Light Cone members:

and two external members who are picked among the programmers or filmmakers
working with Light Cone (their mandate cannot be renewed).

PUBLIC SCREENING
Atelier 105 welcomes the filmmaker to an alternative space for
artistic creation based on experimentation and exchange.
A Scratch/Atelier 105 public screening
will take place in February 2017 with a selection of films produced
during the 2016 residencies.
HOW TO APPLY
Submissions are now open for the first residency session of 2017
(February 27 to July 7).
The application deadline is Friday,
January 20 (midnight).
(However, please note that the session will be closed when
the quota of 30 submissions has been reached)
To submit a project, the candidate must subscribe to the organization by
paying a fee of 30€. The candidate will then become a member of Light Cone
and will have access to the documentation center for one year.
Submissions are closed after the reception of the 30th application.
An announcement will be made on the Light Cone website indicating when the
quota has been reached.

The selected projects for the first residency session of 2017 will be announced
on Friday, February 17, on Light Cone's website. All applicants will be notified by email.
