An orange portal crane creeps along its rails. Shadows cast by the steam of a cooling tower rise above a mountain dump. A freight locomotive sluggishly drives to a shunting yard and uncouples its wagons. SERIOUS APPARITIONS consists of six tableaus from the current industrial landscape of the Ruhr area.
The static settings allow the subject to be viewed for a longer period of time, revealing small movements and processes that become apparent slowly and only after closer observation. The aesthetics of the images are reminiscent of photographic motifs. The compositions, symmetrically arranged from a central perspective, refer to a larger spatial context.
