GHOSTDANCE FOR A NEW CENTURY

by Holly FISHER
1980-2015 / 8mm / color / sound and silent / 1S / 16' 00

This project is a re-imagining of my silent 16mm Ghost Dance (1980) sourced from 8mm for dual projection––re-visited as single multi-layered, digital canvas rich in shifting desert colors. Inspired by 1880’s Native American dance for survival, this new ghostdance realized via over-lapping picture timelines, is a landscape meditation in time––poised between a eulogy for an unspoken past and a plea for attention to an unmapped future. Music by composer/ cellist Ha-Yang Kim.
