Vom Sterneschneutzen (Shooting Stars) is an absurd series of sequences, each dedicated to one mood: The film begins with darkness and birdsong. Then follows bubbling, sprawling. Then the poem to the sublimity of movie images. The elf, at first intangible, appearing transparent. The monologue that combines fascination and untouchability. Then - accompanied by a hypnotizing Apfelmännchen computer graphic - the fairy tale of Cupid, who shoots arrows into his own butt. Finally, the thinker underneath the firmament. And after the credits, a transilluminated human with swallowing disorders - perhaps it was all a bit lush.
Karola Schlegelmilch uses found footage, grotesque double-exposures and clear references to physicality, to address her fascination with and criticism of such suggestively effective moods.
