A wildlife film about birds flying, set against glowing sunsets. On the soundtrack, the buzz of radio static which sometimes resembles that of an airplane and which appears to critique the human desire to fly, an absurd desire when compared to the flight of birds.
"WELTENEMPFÄNGER, sea and landscapes are filtered in red, intercut with red monochromes, the pure color acts as a crossfade as birds fly off into red and yellow. Color is applied as a layer on the image, whose frame, shot and the analogue dimension are respected. It de-realizes and denatures, but what works here is its hue, not its figural powers: it remains discreet, less virulent than the brilliant forms of dysharmonic sequences that characterize the work of Schmelzdahin."
