Alexander Alexeieff and Claire Parker demonstrate and comment animation techniques used to create illustrations for books like Doctor Zhivago: The Illustrated Edition and films such as THE NOSE (1963) and A NIGHT ON BALD MOUNTAIN (1938).
"A sample of their work is seen in a one-reel film which shows how the illustrations were made for Doctor Zhivago, a unique collaboration in which the mind and eyes and hands of Claire Parker seem to respond in an instant to the mind and eyes and hands of Alexeieff. Without such empathy, it is unlikely that films as complex as theirs could have been made. The images are his, one is certain, but the films are of a necessity a joint effort. Alexeieff acknowledges this by giving equal credit to her on all three of their 'long' films, each of which has taken close to two years of eight-hour days, sometimes seven days a week, to complete."
