DES RIVES is a film installation consisting of three simultaneous projections set in a spatialized sound environment by Thomas Köner. Two projections side by side on two-sided screens, the third on the floor, separate them. On the two screens suspended from floor to ceiling, we are immersed in New York City, while on the anamorphic screen on the floor we are confronted with another space: the waves of the Pacific Ocean.
In DES RIVES, travellings of streets and avenues in and around Manhattan from New Jersey, Brooklyn and Queens are interwoven. Each image projected onto these screens is a composite of three distinct views of New York, assembled like the blades of a fan.
The projection on the floor is trapezoidal. A line of light separates the two suspended screens, offering a vision of "nature": waves breaking on California beaches. In this project, two opposing fields are brought together in a particular spatial setting, allowing the perception of a simultaneity of visual and auditory impressions corresponding to a collapse of reference points, as much as to the affirmation of the fragment as instant.
Music by Thomas Köner.
