BASMATI

by Saul SAGUATTI
2002 / Betacam SP / color / sound / 1S / 7' 15

It's a frenzied narration about non existing shapes conceived in sequence loop, where beeing astonished is not a so unusual reaction. In fact ,there is a precise evolution behind all this:

cloured drowings, together with sinuous curved sketches , become further on more close to symbols as soon as they are reached by unusual distordted sounds overloaded with african rithm.

Then ,the first geometric shapes show up , becoming symbols or, in alternative,
Performing rather an experience realized by a wild nature in wich they are certaily the first
Elements able to allow to comunication.

Shapes are getting stylized into uman individuals; movements goes to and fro looking like as they are dancing suddenly the use of words seems to appear and to stay along ,close to bodies full immerse into colours.

In animation it is necessary to work out either practically than, conceptionally,on every single

Frame. No matter if it is done with a compiuter or by drowing on a piece of paper,or using black bits of film or transparents film too.The meaning of an animation movie lies on the frame ,the

Film, on the fast sequence of 24 25 frame per sec, that runs quickly in front of lighty spot well projected through a screen or ,in alternative, reduced in pixell by a compiuter monitor.

In BASMATI all this is bound clear.

Even though the editing has been made basically of a images loop sequence, every single frame can

Be performed as well as a picture hanged on a sitting room wall, influencing people like a billboard

Or any other expressed form of visual works of art.
