The work sees itself as a poetic approach towards the bizarre landscape of ice, rock and water; a journey to the Arctic Ocean and its surroundings with images and sounds.
Source material for ARKTIS were about 70 scenes of one second length from biological and geographic films about the arctic region. By extreme treatment of texture, progress of time and the values of color and brightness the material obtains a quality which appears like landscape paintings. By the drift of the constantly shifting scapes of the moving ice masses with the interweaved cloudy texture filter the perception of space and time is disturbed. With a shimmering blue light in this ice scapes we move through the light into the darkness or vice versa - nothing is safe in this half world.
For the soundtrack there are used short fragments of nature sounds like wind and water and very gentle passages from a piece for strings and vocal which were treated similar than the images: spectral filter, time stretching and amplifying of nearly unhearable details.
