YAMANOTE LIGHT BLAST

by Jürgen REBLE
2005 / b&w / sound / 1S / 19' 00

Source material of this film is a video recording I made 1998 on the Yamanote train surrounding the city of Tokyo. After five years I started to work on that material. First I used a computer to render some shifting of the perspective. Then I decided to copy an extract onto 16mm film just to use a special hand processing with my own chemicals and bleachers to get this grainy character. Finally it became a ghost ride into some microcosmic dimensions of granular synthesis. I copied it back to video and did the editing and soundtrack on the computer. For the soundtrack I used the optical sound of the film grain scanned by the film projector combined with some other nature elements.
