LE BATTEMENT D'AILES D'UN PAPILLON

by Aleksandr BALAGURA
2008 / Mini DV / color / sound / 1S / 64' 00

Twenty five years ago, in Kiev, the film-maker was given a 16mm camera. With a group of friends, all as passionate about cinema as he was himself, he began a film-making project which was designed to combine each of their individual shorts into a longer film. Today the camera itself has disappeared, as have some of the friends involved; the country itself where it all took place has also disappeared - but the rolls of film they shot have remained intact. This new film is an attempt to understand the significance of the film which he and his friends began twenty five years ago; it is also, potentially, an attempt to finish the original film.
