“prolegomena” is composed of several fragments studying time through various film techniques such as step filming, matte-box, superimposition. The first segment includes:
“16 oranges” a fish proliferates in a full glass
“3 pieces” a still life – cinema as the art of cutting.
“3 cycles” around a tree, each cycle blending with the others (frame per frame)
“2 leave 2 islands” was taken roundtrip from the aerial tramway connecting Manhattan and Roosevelt Island. Even images show the departure, odd numbered images, the return.
“24x24” 24 separate, distinct images in a series lasting 24 seconds.
“Chinatown/Coney Island” two locations: one filmed with a zoom in/out, and one with a fixed lens.
“day moon” the moon crosses the sky repeatedly at different hours of the day
“split screen #1” birds lured on a balcony above Chinatown on a Sunday morning juxtaposed to a rapid sunset and the rise of the moon in a mirror.
“split screen #2 (highway)” dawn over a highway, filmed clockwise.
“moon 4x” the moon’s different speeds
“mosaïcs #1-5” jigsaw puzzles in which the pieces come from different times or locations.
“riverside promenade” losses from accelerating too quickly.
“sunset #41” 41 shots of the sun, falling as fast as a missile over Manhattan
