This new version of LE GRANIER was made by assembling out-takes from the first version (LE GRANIER, PAYSAGE ETUDE N°1). Certain sequences of both versions were scratched and tinted (ie: the emulsion of the film was scratched and tinted); other sequences were hand processed and developed using a paintbrush under a darkroom red light. Finally, the hand-tinted negative was converted to positive using the Jaffeux technique.
These first two versions are of somewhat historic value - they are the first films made on 35mm at the Abominable laboratory (L'Abominable); they make use of the old Matipo (Debrie) contact printer which Nicolas Rey and Stefano Canapa restored to working order.
Finally, this film - which is credited to a collective effort - was funded by the CNC (Centre Nationale du Cinema), the direct outcome of a manifesto entitled "Experimental - not my style". Cinematography is a collective art!
