L'ESPRIT EN RUINES

by Jean-Baptiste LENGLET
2008-2009 / Mini DV / color / sound / 1S / 7' 58

The wind glides over a landscape. It is the last breath of the shot, which haunts the area as it crosses it. It is a never-ending ghostly walk, obsessively self-exploratory. Images turn inward on themselves, like a vertical mirror that defines sculptural blocks, architectural structures, tribal masks. The video offers a physiological experiment, which the observer can enter, passing into a fantasy world – a dream that could be a nightmare. At the end of the loop, the baroque form dissolves into the snow and the video itself wastes away, becoming skeletal. The leaves have fallen. It’s winter, the landscape is nothing but purity. The cycle begins again. With an intake of air, the organism grows in volume: the mind begins to wander again, from circle to circle, from location to location.
