A number of different architects worked on the big DDR government initiative to build Karl-Marx-Allee in the 1950s. I've been familiar with this address since I was a child and regularly wrote letters that I sent there. And we received post from from an address in this street, from “Das Magazin”. One of my grandmother's cousins, Hilde Eisler, lived at Karl-Marx-Allee 100. She was married to Gerhard Eisler and was editor of the magazine. I first visited Karl-Marx-Allee in 1995 and have been following developments there ever since.
