Whereas throughout the film Scènes de la vie française : Paris each image is composed of two relatively long sections recorded on dates far apart, in Scènes de la vie française: La Ciotat, the images showing the port, the dry docks, the workers leaving the ship yards, a tanker lauched, fishermen and the beach, rest on the interweaving of two distinct but closely associated durations.
