Sabine GROENEWEGEN

Sabine Groenewegen is an award winning filmmaker, editor and artist. Her found footage science fiction feature Odyssey premiered at Doclisboa in the International Competition, won the 2019 Doc Alliance Selection Award for Best Film, and the Istanbul Experimental Award for Best Feature. The genre-bending film travelled festivals and art venues including FIDMarseille, New Horizons Visual Front, ICA London, and BOZAR Brussels. Her work at the intersection of cinema, visual art and research has received support from institutions around Europe including The Netherlands Film Fund, MediaFund, Flemish Audiovisual Fund, British Arts Council, and Danish Art Foundation. Her work is distributed by Light Cone Paris and Argos Brussels. Sabine edited several artist’ films and documentaries, including recently Looking for Horses which won over 16 awards including Visions de Reél Burning Lights. She is a Core Tutor at the Willem de Kooning Academy Master Lens Based Media and a regular lecturer at the Master of Film at the Netherlands Film Academy where she teaches the seminars Writing Through Editing and The Essaystic as Method. She is a recurring guest teacher at art and film programmes internationally including at Goldsmiths, Aalto University and The Hague Royal Academy. Sabine is the co-founder of the Archive Working Group, an artistic research trajectory for graduate students at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. In 2021-22 she was a participant of the Lodz Visual Narrative Essay Lab. In fall 2022 she had a solo exhibition with audiovisual installations in award winning art space 1646 in The Hague curated by Johan Gustavsson and Clara Pallí Monguilod in 2023 she will have a solo exhibition in Rozenstraat Amsterdam.
