ALL THAT THERE IS ON OUR SOIL is based on three film rolls that were found in a metal box, the forgotten gestures of a painter filming his home and family between 1994 and 1997. The film strip becomes a mental sketchbook, a rhythmic and musical line that reveals the obvious connections between an apple tree, a raised teapot, a son's face, a herd of cows or the flames in a fireplace. Each image seeks the reduction and precision of a drawing; like so many talismans, the frames capture the density and transcience of time: of a face in an instant, of a flower in spring.
Clara Chapus, born in 1989 in Paris, holds a diploma from INSAS (2016, Brussels) and works as a film editor. She has collaborated with, among others, Chiara Caterina, Valérie Donzelli, Vadim Dumesh, Emma Boccanfuso, Yuyan Wang...
Patrick Chapus, visual artist born in 1956 and deceased in 2020. He taught drawing and painting at the École Supérieure d'Art et de Design de Reims from 1982 to 2018. His little-seen but prolific body of work encompasses drawing, painting, installation, and video, in an unceasing questioning of representation and a determination to make "life more interesting than art."
