On the occasion of Scratch’s 15th anniversary (September 1999), Light Cone published the Scratch Book, documenting the enduring vitality of its screening program. This 416-page volume, complete with 500 illustrations, traces the association's history by letting the key participants speak for themselves. Artists, programmers, critics and curators were invited to make a contribution through a personal statement, critical essay, or discussion of their work. The book contains many unpublished interviews along with rich visual material, offering a good overview of the state of experimental cinema. The Scratch Book's varied contents make it a vital record as well as a useful tool for the general public and specialists in the realm of cinema and contemporary art.
