"Everytime people ask me what it was like to live in New York in the 60s, I refer them to the film WALDEN by Jonas Mekas." — Amy Taubin
On the DIARIES, NOTES AND SKETCHES soundtrack, also titled WALDEN (1969), Jonas Mekas proclaims: "I make film, therefore I live".
To whatch WALDEN is to visit an essential place and time through the eyes of a great poet.
It is not necessary to visit it with a tour guide. But for having spent numerous hours, joyous ones, exploring Mekas' WALDEN, I've noticed that the fascination the film provoques increases with the knowledge you have of it.
The aim of this book is to accompany the viewer through this film diary, which has now become an essential reference in the history of cinema.
Scott Hammen takes us to the heart of Jonas Mekas' masterpiece, revealing little-known aspects of Walden that enrich our knowledge of the film and its context.
With previously unpublished testimonials by Jonas Mekas.
