Natasha MENDONCA

Nationality: Indian

Natasha Mendonca is an award-winning filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist from Bombay, India. S/he holds a B.A from St. Xavier’s College, Bombay in Sociology and Anthropology and a Masters in Film and Video from the California Institute of the Arts.

S/he works with 16mm film, video, sound, photography and performance around themes of food, gender, sexuality, censorship & music.

Her work has shown at the Museum of Modern Art PS1, (USA), Centre Pompidou (France), Tate Modern (U.K), Instituto Tomie Ohtake (Brazil), Los Angeles County Museum, (USA), Kochi Muziris Biennale, India Art Fair, NGBK (Germany), Locarno Film Festival among others.

Her film Jan Villa, won the Tiger award at The International Film Festival Rotterdam 2011, the Ken Burns award for the Best film of the festival at the Ann Arbor Film Festival 2011, A residency award at the Southern Panoramas competition, Video Brazil 2011 and the Adolfas Mekas award for the Best film of the festival, Experimenta, India 2011.

Her debut feature film Strange Love / Ajeeb Aashiq premiered at the International film festival Rotterdam and was nominated for the Bright Future Award 2016. The film received the Hubert Bals Digital production fund, Netherlands 2011 and was selected to be part of Open Doors at the Locarno Film Festival, Switzerland 2011.

S/he has represented India at the 2012 London Olympics and Cultural festival (Tate Modern) in a collaboration with artist Olafur Eliasson. S/he was also on the Ted
