The starting idea, if there really had been one, was to use, directly during the shooting process, natural devices for transforming the image, such as simple moving mirrors, animated by the surface of water waves and other tremblings on lake surfaces, and other bodies of water in the natural space of the Paris urban area...
I find this much more fascinating than any "treatment in post" (this is the official term in cinema jargon !) of optical effects created these days on computers.
