WARNING.
The footage in this short film was shot on expired or "vintage" Kodachrome film (1950s-60s) packaged in Kodak cassettes or "magazines" containing approximately 15 meters of unprinted 16mm film and a small spring-loaded camera. Decades later, a Super 16mm scan of the reels into 16mm rushes was made by LIGHT CONE (Paris) in 2023-24.
The filming was carried out in the small garden of Olivier Fouchard's studio-apartment at 15 rue du Drac in Grenoble between 1998 and 2008.
The footage features the "reels" of Mahine Rouhi, filmmaker and poet born in 1973 in Sanandaj, Iranian Kurdistan; Laurent Huyart, film critic, lecturer, and filmmaker born in 1967 in Paris; and a cameo by Olivier Fouchard, filmmaker born in Troyes in 1969.
Once these small 15-meter reels were reassembled and recalibrated in January 2025, a soundtrack was specially created for this montage. The colors were removed because Mahine and Laurent were shooting black, white, and gray films at the time.
At that time, we talked a lot about cinema, and one of our shared tastes was director Andrei Tarkovsky, illustrated here by the soundtrack... But what we said to each other that day is no one's business but ours.
That's the secret of our friendship.
