FIEBERROT
Feverish Red

by Christoph GIRARDET
1993 / color / sound / 1S / 3' 30

«A fantasy in brilliant Technicolor. Chained up women are deprived of the narrative trappings of their film roles. You see red lips, fingernails digging in, a bosom rising and falling with the rhythm of the woman's breath, in short, all the essentials from horror films of the fifties and sixties and repeated insistently in serial collage. So much directness has a penetrating effect on the viewer, until the presentation gradually becomes ironical. The voyeuristic viewer changes into a civilised viewer who observes a process of communication between manacled female objects. But there is no relief. The communication that initially took place in the form of glances becomes increasingly intense. The women's cries grow into a final orgy of screams as the result of the accelerated montage. All that is left in the end is the uncomfortable question of how bearable or endurable our fantasies are». Peter Dyker.
