CHINA 66

Many years ago, I discovered a Super 8 film made by my grand father as an amateur on a professional journey in China during the Cultural Revolution. I took hold of this exceptional object to bring it back 40 years later on its original sites. My intention was to propose to the people I met to look at the 1966 film with the help of a DVD player, to ask them to react and to confront these images from their past with the ones from contemporary China. My questioning and my inquiry were about topography and memories of the sites where the film was shot, and about the individual and collective memory.
This work took the form of a film and a video installation in 3 screens.
