The underlying aim of the Editions des Archives du film expérimental d'Avignon is to provide a framework for advancing contemporary thinking concerning the theory and the practice of experimental film. This first publication treats issues related to the visual aspect of filmmaking as seen from within the context of recent Canadian experimental work. Although the essays contributed by Canadian and French filmmakers, curators and theoreticians necessarily reflect issues of concern for the practice in Canada at the present time, it is hoped that the pieces of ongoing debate published here will contribute towards enlarging the interest in film as a fine art on a wider scale.
