Carla Andrade’s interest in the aesthetic experience as a transformer of consciousness led her to study a BA in Media & Communication in Salamanca University and an MA in Artists’ Film & Moving Image at Goldsmiths University of London, as well as Philosophy from National Distance University in Madrid. This intersection between visual means of expression and a field closer to reflection is precisely one of the defining aspects of her work. Since 2010, she has shown her work (both individually and collectively) at internationally-renowned contemporary art venues – including the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, MARCO of Vigo, Le Centquatre-Paris, CaixaForum Barcelona, Tabacalera and La Casa Encendida, both in Madrid, or LUX London – and at international experimental film and photography festivals, such as IFF Rotterdam, ZINEBI, Porto/Post/Doc, Courtisane, Ji.hlava, Alchemy IFF, (S8), Curtocircuito, PHotoESPAÑA, Mois de la Photo and Encontros da Imagem. She has undertaken artist residencies in Europe, Asia, South America and Africa. Her work has been included in international art publications in the USA, Brazil, South Korea and Spain and acquired by public and private art collections, such as the CA2M and the CGAC among others. I have also worked very closely with the filmmaker Lois Patiño on his two most successful films: ‘Mountain in Shadow’ (2012) and ‘Coast of Death’ (2013), receiving awards from Locarno IFF, Jeonju IFF, FICUNAM, SEFF, Clermont-Ferrand, Oberhausen and Bucharest IEFF, among many others.
