"You catch what’s sought. The disregarded thing escapes." (Sophocles) A film begins from a mystery. Though it may be linked to some external circumstance, such as an origin story, an anomaly, or a crime, more often than not, its deeper cause is (also) an internal question to be resolved. The films in this program, which were supported by the Atelier 105 residency between 2024 and 2025, work with the notion of enigma more or less explicitly. For some, film may become a way to enter a cherished person's artistic realm; elsewhere, the filmmakers attempt to decipher the signs, real or imaginary, inscribed in the interiors and landscapes of childhood. Placing frame next to frame, shot next to shot, they advance in resolving their mysteries, or better yet, in producing new and more perplexing riddles.
The Atelier 105 residency program, which has been proposed by Light Cone since 2014 with the support of the Île-de-France Region, allows artists who work in the field of experimental cinema to complete the digital post-production of their films in a professional context. Not only an invaluable technical tool for filmmakers working independently, it is also a space for artistic exchange that is as beneficial for the residents as it is for Light Cone's collection, which thus finds itself continually challenged and renewed.
