OBJET D'ÉNIGME

by Chiara CATERINA
2025 / 16mm & Mobile phone / b&w / sound / 1 screen / 18' 00

Keys, doors, masks, rooms. Objects spinning on themselves, suspended in an undefined space, like fragments of a dream or clues to an unsolvable mystery. Their repetition seems to sketch out a hidden order, an enigma waiting to be pieced together—but the more the image reveals itself, the deeper the mystery grows. Behind the doors, there is only emptiness. The objects fragment, waver, slipping between presence and disappearance.
Captured in 3D by a Lidar scanner, these objects are altered by the device’s limitations: doors become mere surfaces without depth. Transferred onto 16mm film and developed manually in a darkroom, these images embody the tension between digital precision and fragile materiality.
