Born in 1935, Giovanni Martedi is a prominent figure of European avant-garde cinema. Considered a specialist of "cameraless film," in the 1970s Martedi developed a film practice in the spirit of Arte Povera, attempting to articulate a "poor" cinema from within experimental film. Instead of shooting, he reused film ends and found scraps of film, while his expanded cinema installations aimed to explore and challenge the very notion and process of film projection.
