Bill Brand's films and videos have screened since 1973 in the US and abroad in museums, festivals and independent film showcases. His 1980 Masstransiscope, a mural in the subway system of New York City that is animated by the movement of passing trains, is a widely regarded work of public art. Bill Brand lives in New York City and is Professor Emeritus of Film and Photography at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. He is president of BB Optics, Inc., a company that specializes in archival film preservation and post-production services for independent filmmakers, libraries, museums and archives. Since 2005 he has taught film preservation at the New York University Moving Image Archiving and Preservation graduate program.
