Emily BREER

Nationality: American

Director/Animator Emily Breer’s first film FLUKE showed at New Directors in 1985. Her work has won numerous awards and is included in museum collections here and abroad. Her short film SUPERHERO was included in the Whitney Biennial 1995 and their Art of The Century exhibit in 2000. SUPERHERO funded by the NEA, Guggenheim and Jerome Foundations, ran continuously at The American Museum of the Moving Image for many years.

In 1999 Breer was invited to travel with her work as part of the South Carolina Arts Commission’s Southern Circuit Tour. A list of screenings and festivals for her series (starring Joe Gibbons) THE PHONY TRILOGY 1997 and CLASSICS EXPOSED 1999 (funded by a NYSCA grant) include The Whitney Museum’s Art of The Century; WNET/13, Reel NY; Black Maria, Juror’s Choice; NY EXPO Best Animation; Rotterdam and Oberhausen.

She has also made music videos and spots for MTV, Comedy Central, PBS and ITVS, one of which won a National Education Media Network award. Her lastest video, The Tutor (32 mins), made over the course of 6 years, stars Joe Gibbons and her daughter Zoe.
