Takashi Ishida, born in Tokyo in 1972, is a distinguished painter and film artist. He holds a position as Professor at Tama Art University.
Ishida is renowned for his unique drawing animation technique, where he creates lines and captures them one frame at a time. By interposing multiplying lines, moving points, or other mobile elements, his installations generate diverse spatial transformations.
His work has been widely exhibited internationally. Recent major exhibitions include "Between Tableau and Window" at The Museum of Modern Art, Hayama (2024); "Light on the Arc" at the Aomori Contemporary Art Center (2019); Sharjah Biennial 13, "Tamawuj" (2017); Aichi Triennale 2016 and Kenpoku Art 2016 (both 2016); "BILLOWING LIGHT: ISHIDA Takashi" at the Yokohama Museum of Art and the Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum (2015); Dojima River Biennale, Osaka (2013); and "Double Vision: Contemporary Art from Japan" at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (2012).
Earlier notable exhibitions include "MOT Collection Silent Narrator: On Plural Stories Special Feature: Takashi Ishida" at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (2011); "Artist File 2010: The NACT Annual Show of Contemporary Art" at The National Art Center, Tokyo (2010); "Meditations Biennale: Beyond Meditations" in Poznan, Poland (2010); "Takamatsu Contemporary Art Annual Vol. 01: Another Carnival" at the Takamatsu City Museum of Art (2010); and "Quest for Vision Vol.2: Ishida Takashi and Genealogy of Abstract Animation" at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography (2009).
Ishida's contributions to the arts have been recognized with accolades such as the Most Promising Young Talent Prize of the Gotoh Cultural Award in 2007. His work "Gestalt" received the Award for Excellence at Image Forum Festival 1999.
