BROADWALK

by William RABAN
1972 / color / sound / 1 screen / 12' 00

Originally it was a four minutes timelapse of 24 hours. The camera was directed on one of Regent Park's pedestrian path and recorded three images per minute. The shutter was kept open during the twenty seconds between each exposition, that way the frames faded into each other when the film was screened, revealing the pattering flow of human movements. The original acceleration was increased using different methods of refilming, unveiling the original structure of the image by image.
