When I emptied my mother's apartment after her death, I recuperated several boxes of family photographs. Some of them, very old, dated from the time of my maternal grandmother, and I recognized in them my mother as a child, then an adolescent, a young girl... my mother as I had never known her. I passed many hours looking at these images, scrutinizing the faces, speculating on the circumstances of these moments that took place before my birth. And then I began to make a kind of dialectical film, where « the Former meets the Now », in the words of Walter Benjamin.
