“The reason Balance Ball is in color is that there was a need to make this fundamental concept in J.P. Bertrand’s work even more prominent: the concept of ‘elsewhere,’ of shifting the focus. The chosen ball is ringed in yellow and red.
The film is structured as a repetition of the same movement. The first frame of each shot depends on the appearance of the ball, which, dropped “off-screen,” bounces on the ground, then comes to rest; the shot ends at the exact moment the ball finds its balance. The camera is completely static.” Laurent Danet.
