by Carolee SCHNEEMANN
1964 / color / silent / 1S / 25' 00
As a painter, I have never accepted that any part of the body should be subject to any visual or tactile taboos. I was free to examine the celluloid itself, burning it, baking it, cutting it, painting it, dipping my footage in acid, making dense layers of glue and complex A and B assemblies using only paper clips.
"Schneemann's film is outrageously erotic, transcending the sexual surface to communicate her true spirit, her meaning as an essential activity for herself and wisely for all women." B. Ruby Rich.
