VULVA

by Marcelle THIRACHE
1992 / Super 8mm / color / silent / 1S / 5' 00

A playful film that draws attention to a forgotten period in history called the "Vulva civilization" that dates back to 30,000 years BCE. The archeologist Marie König has found traces in the form of engraved inscriptions on boulders in a place known as "Dame Jouanne" in the Fontainebleau forest (near Paris).
A film to remind one that patriarchy wasn't always on top and that feminine has also meant philosopher. The vulva was an essential symbol in the era when representing women meant representing the world.

VERS LA DAME JOUANNE by Jennifer Burford and VULVA can be shown together and in double projection.
