CHINA TEA

by Malcolm LE GRICE
1965 / 8mm / color / sound / 2 screens / 4' 49

Was the first 8mm film I showed in public. It was made with two standard 8 cameras often being moved simultaneously but then cut together in sequence. The subject was a still life - a black Chinese tea service - all shot at touching distance - the cameras moving around and across the cups and pot. The sound track on tape was made with a 'prepared' piano - small hardwood sticks inserted between the strings and struck - influenced by the sounds of Chinese music.
