EXALTED STATES is the 2025 restoration/revision of my 2008 composition FAILED STATES. In the earlier version I had interpreted little boys’ love of spinning in circles until they dizzily fall over as a self-destructive impulse presaging a bad outcome for humanity, but that was a DVD-level telecine; the new glorious 4K scan made me realize that it was more of a whirling dervish impulse leading rather to a higher state of consciousness and bliss.
