IN THE NEW WORLD is a much-abridged version of an 1914 feature drama shot on 35mm film on Vancouver Island at Alert Bay.
It used First Nation actors in a complex story of love revenge and intrigue. They wear authentic costumes and the director was Edward Curtis.
Curtis was famous for thousands of still photographs of Western First Nations people.
The film print was lost and found and re-edited with chanting and sound effects.
This piece of rotoscope animation is a kind of ethnographic documentary .
