Co-author of "Jeune, dure et pure ! Une histoire du cinéma d'avant-garde et expérimental en France" (2000) with Nicole Brenez and author, among others, of "Radical cinema" (2008-2021), Christian Lebrat is also and above all an experimental filmmaker himself. He realized "Delicious colors on a blue background" at the age of 24. It is a short film of 10 minutes shot in 16 mm colors where are combined anamorphoses of TV images with fragments of the painting by Hieronymus Bosch: "The Garden of Delights". Lebrat uses paper from which he has cut slits before hanging it in front of the camera lens. The image is thus only streaks and stripes thanks to the fast zooms and panoramas. The experiment works wonderfully because, mixing the cold blue of the cathode ray tube with the warm golden orange of the Bosch painting, it brings us back to the essence of cinematographic projection (darkness and light).
