Super-impressions, impressions, cubist portraits, refilming, split-screen, film as film, film grain, reframing, found photos, questioning of temporality, disappearance, strobing, optical printing—here are just a few of the many expressions and key words that characterize the various forms that the work of Barbara Meter has taken on since her first film in 1970. For this screening, we will share 7 defining works selected from the rich, wide-ranging career of this Dutch artist, who co-founded Electric Cinema in the 70s and participated in a number of important struggles, such as women’s rights. Here’s a filmmaker who continues, to this day, to renew her inquiries into the world.
