In the presence of Richard Tuohy and Dianna Barrie.
Nanolab is an artisanal film laboratory located near Melbourne in Australia and run by the filmmaker Richard Tuohy. Traveling through Europe on the occasion of the International Meeting of Filmmakers' Laboratories, which will take place in Nantes in July, Richard will present us with a panorama of the works that have been made in his laboratory. The films in this program can be characterized by their attachment to materialism, in reference to the outlook typical of Australian philosophical thought, which profoundly rejects any sort of metaphysics outside of strict materialism.
Richard Tuohy and Dianna Barrie produce 16mm films that deal with the esthetics of cinematographic materials, tools and processes, particularly from the point of view of the photochemical laboratory. This interest is shared by Sue K, a video artist whose works are, on the other hand, made with video and digital formats. Also included in the program are the films of Paul Winkler, a Bolex virtuoso who masterfully exploits in-camera editing.
