In the presence of David Kidman.
Hommage to Marie-Hélène Breuil
(films by D. Kidman, with or about Marie-Hélène Breuil)
Marie-Hélène Breuil passed away on April 1st, 2016, at the age of 54, following a difficult illness. Since 1995, she had co-curated screenings of artists' films with the organization Work in Progress, where she also organized exhibitions. Professor of art history, she had a long-lasting, great interest in the work of Claude Rutault, leading her to publish numerous articles, organize exhibitions and write four books on the ensemble of the specific facets of Rutault's work, including Claude Rutault. Painting, Writing, Sociability, PUR, 2014 (her doctoral thesis, defended in 2009). Her contribution to the understanding and interpretation of Rutault's work is widely recognized and prized. One of the films she produced, which was made for the Mac/Val, Une Promenade de Claude Rutault, is included in this program.
She produced other films, mostly those of her husband David Kidman, and often worked in other roles behind or in front of the camera, while always contributing invaluable advice and accompaniment. She leaves behind much affection, love, and a big gap in the lives of those who knew her.
