Screening introduced by Vivian Ostrovsky
The films presented in this program are associated with different countries and have no common theme. The oldest is a dreamlike pause in the beauty of Venice, the second, a playful stroll in Japan towards a future birth, the third, a cinephilic evocation of childhood memories in Greece, and the final film, the longest one, speaks to contemporary anxiety in American suburbs.
What they do share is an unusual approach to filming: holding the camera upside down, melding with it as one or hoisting it onto a helicopter. And also, practising acrobatics on optical printers, repeating frames, double-exposing them, creating slow-motion, fast-motion, freezing them... A program waiting to be unearthed!
