A portrait of the filmmaker and pioneer of the LGBT cause, Lionel Soukaz, who passed away in February 2025. He worked at the intersection of multiple genres that do not often meet: experimental, activist, pornographic, diaristic, etc...
"I met Lionel in early 2000 at the experimental film organization L'Etna. We quickly became friends and had a lot of fun together. We also regularly programmed each other's work. The necessity to make this film comes from having discovered that many of Lionel's films no longer exist in their original formats. Gathering recordings of interviews is a way of saving them, of transferring them to another format before the hard drives fail. And of course, to meet Lionel again, who filmed others so that they don't disappear."
In parallel to making short, playfully subversive films, Yves-Marie Mahé also makes feature-length documentaries based on archive material. An activist as well, he participates in a number of collective projects (L'Etna, Collectif Négatif, La Clef Revival, La Loupe, the Festival des cinémas différents et expérimentaux de Paris, the show "Les Oreilles Libres" on Radio Libertaire...)
