Castagnoli comes "after the underground," and it's fair to say that he experiments as he breathes, because "the man with the camera" is not an exception nor a metaphor. The most striking aspect of his works is the sensation of time and light, in other words the sense of the body, which uses the camera to transcribe, chronicle, and live its biological rhythms.
- Adriano Aprà
The close-up portraits that punctuate this diary-like work, and which are among the most admirable - if the quickest - ever made in cinema, don’t float away like gratuitous pieces of gallantry, but are intimately justified, connected to the film’s music by a hundred flowing veins.
- Dominique Noguez
La nott’e’l giorno is the most meticulously and masterfully edited film in all of Italian cinema, in a multitude of links between forms, lights, gestures, atmospheres and figurations of vibrations captured in various times and locations.
- Alberto Farassino
